Weekly round-up for Sunday 2 April 2023. The weather destroyed the fixture list this weekend and we only have a Cup Final and three other games to report.
We start with the Division 3 Cup 22-23, sponsored by Nick Chambers, in memory of his father Chris - Final

Hampton Magna 5 Wellesbourne Wanderers 0

The Stockton ground staff had worked wonders here and despite the weather this game went ahead. A lovely sunny afternoon greeted the teams, and the rows of fans who turned up to watch. Magna looked to be up for it from the off and it wasn’t long before a chance was presented. A direct free kick on the edge of the box and up stepped Matthew Hughes. He just smashed it straight and it flew past the Wellesbourne keepers despairing hands into the roof of the net. The second followed shortly after. This one from the penalty spot. Nick Hill duly despatched this one into the top right corner leaving the keeper a spectator. On the stroke of half time Wellesbourne went down to ten men after a red card was shown.
The second half saw Magna in control as Wellesbourne chased the ball. Goal of the game was number three. Aaron Dickens from outside the box curling his shot into the top left corner with the keeper again looking on as a spectator. Nathan Stoute added the fourth and Mark Hickey finished it off from the penalty spot after Wellesbourne were reduced to nine men, when a defender dived to prevent a goal bound header and handballed off the line. Magna were the better side on the day but Wellesbourne will be back. An entertaining game for the neutral spectators on a lovely sunny afternoon.

On to League action now and we start as usual in Division 1

Bishops Itchington 2 Chadwick End 1

The only Division 1 fixture to escape the weather. Josh Cole scored after twenty minutes to put the home side ahead. Tom Tarbuck made it all square just before half time. That’s how it stayed until fifteen minutes from time when Kasey Smith netted to give Bishops the advantage and they held on to take all three points.

On to Division 3

Real Barston 1 Cubbington FC 1

Benjamin Valatka had put Barston ahead on the half hour mark and that was the only goal of the first half. Sam Smith then had Cubbington back level on the hour mark and that was the end of the goals here.

Sporting Foresters 5 Kineton Sports and Social Club 0

Battle of the bottom clubs here and it was surprisingly one sided.
One way traffic here and Foresters were ahead after a penalty awarded in the first minute. Liam Miller scoring from the spot for the fastest goal of the day. Alex Stevens added a second fifteen minutes later.
Kineton made a fist of it then, and it wasn’t until there was only twenty minutes to go when Daniel Batchelor grabbed another for Foresters. This was swiftly followed by another from Ryan Baghria and then with seconds left on the clock Stevens got his brace.
