Latest weekly round up. 28.1.24

All the results and goals from the games this weekend.

Weekly round-up for Sunday 28 January 2024. We have a raft of Cup matches with a couple of surprises along the way.
We start with the Division 1 Cup 2023-24, sponsored by Anthony Eden Gents Hairdresser - Semi-Final

Bishops Itchington 1 Leamington Hib’s Reserves 4

A close game until the latter stages when Hib’s reserves stepped up a gear. James Hancocks gave Hib’s the lead after twenty five minutes, but Ciaran Houston made it all square ten minutes later. That’s how it stayed until the break. Both sides were looking for the lead and it remained tight until just before the hour mark when Harry Davies popped up to restore Hib’s advantage. Eleven minutes later and Connor Mort struck to extend the lead and with ten minutes left Stanley Dube added a fourth to seal the tie and take Hib’s Reserves into the Division 1 Cup Final

We move on to the Division 1 Supplementary Cup 2023-24, sponsored by friends of Rowan Fitzgerald - Preliminary Round

Heathcote Athletic 1 Leamington Hib’s 1

Both goals arriving in the first half within four minutes of each other. Ash Kitchen with the Hib’s strike just past the half hour mark and that was swiftly followed by Kyran Shuker for the Heathcote equaliser. It stayed that way all through the second half despite the chances, and so to penalty kicks.
Leamington Hibernian win 2 - 4 on penalties and progress into the next round.

Kenilworth Wardens 3 Chadwick End 2

This game fired into life after the break. Rhys Edwards had given Chadwick the lead on the half hour mark. Dan Twigger made it all square ten minutes into the second half. Cameron Holden then gave Wardens the lead with thirteen minutes on the clock. Mark Turner then pulled Chadwick back into it three minutes later and with penalty kicks looming , up popped Dan Twigger to score what turned out to be the winner for Wardens with five minutes to go. Wardens progress into the next round.

Khalsa Reserves 1 Bourton and Frankton 3

A Luke Warby goal for Khalsa was the only consolation here as strikes from James Lienau, Callum Carsley and Joshua Cooke did the damage for Bourton, who progress into the next round.

And now for the Tracey Thomas Challenge Cup 2023-24 - Round 3

Cubbington Albion 1 Bowling Green 0

A solitary Jordan White strike after twenty five minutes gave Albion the win here.

Wellesbourne Wanderers 3 Massey Ferguson Sports and Social 2
Wellesbourne continue their recent good form here. Danny McCann gave Massey’s the lead after eighteen minutes. Alexander Rea got the home side back level before the advantage switched to Wellesbourne when Joshua Duffin struck just before the break. The second half remained tight but with twenty minutes to go Adam Buzzard struck for the Tractor boys to make it all square again. With penalty kicks looming, three minutes into stoppage time. up popped Joel Giblin to stick one away for Wellesbourne and take them through into the next round.

Napton 3 Kineton Sports and Social Club 5

Fastest goal of the day here for Chris Watts after only two minutes. He added a second seven minutes later to give Napton a two goal advantage. Eight minutes later and Lewis Elkins scored a third for Napton and things were looking dire for Kineton. Scott Dunn stepped up and pulled one back for the visitors seven minutes before the break, and that was swiftly followed by another from Liam Naven Jones two minutes later. The second half belonged to Kineton. Rory Fisher levelled the score ten minutes after the re-start. Fisher then added a second fifteen minutes later to give Kineton the lead. With ten minutes to go Michael Lawrence tucked away another for Kineton to take them into the next round.

Real Barston 2 Kenilworth Royal Oak 4

William Harte struck first here for Royal Oak after five minutes . Benjamin Valatka made it all square twenty minutes later but an own goal restored the Royal Oak advantage within two minutes. George Billington made it all square on the hour mark and penalty kicks loomed. With twelve minutes to go Morgan Powell struck to give Royal Oak the lead and Joshua Cox completed the scoring with a minute to go. Royal Oak progress into the next round.

Stockton Reserves 1 Pig and Fiddle 3

A very late consolation for Stockton here from Luc Sengupta with five minutes left. The damage was already done as Craig Williams , Calum Gellender and Kieran Morgan had all scored for Pig to take the win and progress into the next round.

We move on to League action now and we start in Division 3

H R I Harbury 3 Long Itchington Res 2
A late comeback here for the Veg boys and Greg Eales was the hero. Tom Jones struck first, not unusually, from the penalty spot after twenty minutes to give Harbury the lead. Mark Larner made it all square before the break. Toby Hollingsworth then scored on the hour mark to give The Long Men the advantage, before Eales made his move. His first came with twenty minutes to go to make it two all. Then with only two minutes left on the clock Eales struck again to take the points for the Veg boys

Stockton 1 Bishops Itchington Reserves 3

A second half comeback here as George Ayley had given Stockton the lead after eighteen minutes. Nine minutes into the second half and Bishops sprang into life, Joel Bennett making it all square. Two goals in a four minute spell from Michael Yeates and Jay Morgan wrapping it up for Bishops.

Whitnash Town 4 Newbold 0

A brace for Connor Wilson and singles from Matthew Hughes and Alexandre Matiron were enough here to sink Newbold.
