The Andy Campbell Charity Invitation Cup 22-23 - Final

Newbold 3 Hampton Magna 2

Another entertaining Cup Final, and some great goals. Eighteen minutes in and Magna nearly take the lead, after a wayward Newbold back pass beats the keeper, but clips the bottom of the post and goes out for a corner. Newbold break from the corner and some neat interpassing down the right, a deep cross and Jordan Bedford heads back across goal into the bottom corner. Newbold take the lead. Magna continued to push and were rewarded with an equaliser nine minutes later. Matthew Hughes with a super strike from twenty yards out drilled his shot into the bottom corner. With half time looming Newbold won a free kick on the edge of the box for a handball. Up stepped Joe Wright and he struck it like an arrow, hard and fast straight into the roof of the net past the Magna keeper who got nowhere near it! Five minutes later and another cracker! Ryan Palmer picked the ball up outside the Magna box. He cut inside and curled a super strike into the top left corner. The keeper had no chance!
Half Time Newbold 3 Hampton Magna 1
The second half was just as thrilling with end to end stuff. Newbold held firm but Magna struck just past the hour mark. Another long range strike this time from Aaron Dickens. Eighteen yards out and a fine finish low into the bottom corner. Magna pushed for the equaliser but Newbold kept them out and held on to win the Cup.
The Trophy and awards were presented by Craig Stickles, League sponsor.
