Weekly round-up for Sunday 28th April 2024. We start with the mid-week games and we are going first to Wednesday 24th April and to Leamington FC for the Cancer Research UK Charity Invitation Cup 2023-24 - Final
Bishops Itchington Reserves 1 Long Itchington 3
A dry but chilly evening greeted the players as they came out onto the Leamington turf for this eagerly awaited Final. Bishops started well and the Long Men were under pressure and didn’t settle. It was no surprise when Joel Bennett broke the deadlock to give Bishops the lead midway through the half. The goal stirred the game up and things started to get spicy.
The second half saw the game continue in a bad tempered fashion and the Long men took advantage and began to get a foothold into the game. With an hour on the clock, up stepped Andy McGuire with a tremendous freekick from outside the box, curled into the top corner past the despairing dive of the Bishops keeper to make it one all. Bishops were then caught napping when a quick freekick sent Austin Brooks racing through and he slotted past the stranded keeper. The long Men were now dominant and Brooks struck for his second three minutes later. Long Itchington held firm and take the Cancer Cup.

We return to Tuesday 23 April 2024 and we start with a Cup game.
Cancer Research UK Charity Invitation Supplementary Cup 2023-24 - Round 2
Heathcote Athletic 3 Dynamo Leamington 3
A ding dong game here and a late equaliser to add to the excitement. George Ellis put Heathcote ahead after twenty minutes. Lee Watton then made it all square eight minutes later. Owen Davies then restored the Heathcote advantage two minutes later. Kyran Shuker then extended the lead with five minutes left in the half, only for an own goal to let Dynamo back into the game on the stroke of half time.
The second half remained tight and it was looking like Heathcote were going to hold on, until Ryan Woodward popped up with twelve minutes to go to make it all square again and that’s how it ended. So, to spot kicks we go!

We move on to League action and start with Division 1(A)
Leamington Hibernian Reserves 5 Bourton and Frankton 1
A first minute start for Hib’s from Scott Hammond. He added a second nineteen minutes later and went on to finish with a hat-trick grabbing the last with four minutes to go. Connor Mort also scored just past the half hour mark and an own goal completed the tally.
We move on to Division 3
Kenilworth Royal Oak 3 Stockton 0
Joshua Cox scored in the first minute to get Royal Oak on their way. James McCarthy added a second before half time. William Harte rounded it off with the third two minutes into stoppage time.
Long Itchington Reserves 1 Wellesbourne Wanderers 10 (ten)
Wellesbourne dominated this one and Alexander Rae lead the way with four Elliot Durbin added a brace, Rowan Love, George Deeley, Joel Giblin and Benjamin Adler added the rest.
Napton 3 HRI Harbury 4
Napton dropped three points that might prove cruitcal at the end of the season. Suroush Lisle-Pourzyaie put Napton ahead after twelve minutes. Brett Ellard equalised six minutes later. Aiden Print restored the Napton lead three minutes later. Aaron Ellard made it all square just before half time.
The second half was a slow burner. Vitor Machado put the veg boys infront after seventy seven minutes and Sam Pye extentended the advantage four minutes later. Jack Welch pulled one back for Napton with four minutes left on the clock but it wasn’t enough.
Newbold 3 Cubbington FC 5
A Jordan Bedford brace and one from Alex White weren’t enough here for Newbold as Cubbington struck with Jack Gibson grabbing four for himself and one from George Wilkinson.

Balsall & Berkswell 1 Bowling Green 6
Bowling Green showcased their dominance on the field with a commanding 6-1 victory over Balsall & Berkswell. Despite Balsall & Berkswell's early equalizer by William Heward, Bowling Green surged ahead with goals from Noah Whitlock, Ed Jolly (twice), Benjamin Wilson, Jason Thompson, and Joseph Knott, sealing their triumph. This comprehensive win highlighted Bowling Green's attacking prowess and left Balsall & Berkswell struggling to keep up.
Massey Ferguson Sports&Soc 1 AFC Snitterfield 0
In a tightly contested match between Massey Ferguson Sports & Social and AFC Snitterfield, it was Massey Ferguson who emerged victorious with a narrow 1-0 win. The lone goal of the game came in the 25th minute courtesy of Danny McCann, whose strike proved to be the difference maker. Despite both teams battling hard throughout the match, Massey Ferguson held on to their slender lead to secure all three points. The victory showcased Massey Ferguson's resilience and determination, while AFC Snitterfield will be left to rue missed opportunities as they narrowly missed out on a result.

Southam Sporting 1 Stockton Reserves 1
Southam Sporting and Stockton Reserves played to a 1-1 draw in a closely contested match. Luc Sengupta gave Stockton Reserves an early lead in the 15th minute, but Southam Sporting responded with a goal from Harley Francis in the 35th minute. Despite both teams' efforts, neither could find a winner in the second half, resulting in a share of the points.

George Dutton Charity Invitation Cup 2023-24 - Semi-Final
Bishops Itchington Reserves 2 Wellesbourne Wanderers 2
In a thrilling semi-final encounter of the George Dutton Charity Invitation Cup 2023-24, Bishops Itchington Reserves faced off against Wellesbourne Wanderers in a tightly contested match.
The match saw both teams exchanging blows throughout, with Alexander Rea putting Wellesbourne Wanderers ahead in the 38th minute, only for Andrew Yeates to equalize for Bishops Itchington Reserves in the 53rd minute.
Benjamin Adler then restored Wellesbourne Wanderers' lead in the 63rd minute, but Bishops Itchington Reserves fought back resiliently, with William Webster-Wall finding the net in the 77th minute to level the score once again.
With neither team able to find a winner in regular time, the match proceeded to a nerve-wracking penalty shootout. Wellesbourne Wanderers held their nerve, converting four of their penalties to emerge victorious with a 4-3 win on penalties, booking their place in the final of the cup competition.

Ettington Rovers 5 Stockton 1
In a commanding display, Ettington Rovers secured a resounding victory over Stockton with a final score of five goals to one. Jordan Robinson opened the scoring for Ettington Rovers in the forty-minute mark, followed by George Buckingham extending the lead in the forty-ninth minute. Robinson struck again in the fifty-fourth minute, further solidifying Ettington Rovers' dominance. Stockton managed to pull one back with a goal from Malachy Rose in the forty-seventh minute. However, Ettington Rovers continued to press forward, with Aidan Keavey adding another goal in the seventy-sixth minute. William Wyatt sealed the emphatic win for Ettington Rovers with a goal in the eighty-ninth minute. It was a comprehensive performance by Ettington Rovers, showcasing their attacking prowess and securing a convincing victory.
