Weekly round up for Sunday 10th September 2023. It’s only week two but we have plenty of action and we start this week with our Match of the Day which was:
Whitnash Town FC v Stockton FC
Following a blisteringly hot week it was no surprise that the pitch was baked rock hard. We were greeted with a few raindrops for the start of the match but that petered out early on. Both sides started briskly but within four minutes Stockton took the lead. A free kick out wide on the right was flicked on towards goal, the keeper flaps at it and it bounces loose where Dale Phillips prods it home from close range for fastest goal of the day.
Five minutes later and Whitnash are caught playing out from defence. The shot from Stockton clears the bar by inches. From the goal kick we go straight down the other end and a neat through ball into the Whitnash striker beats him with pace off the hard pitch. It’s getting frenetic with some end to end action. Stockton nearly double the advantage with a break down the right, neat passing and a good shot on goal goes is straight at the keeper. Whitnash again get caught playing out and Stockton pounce but the shot is wide.
It's back up the other end with some headed ping pong in the middle, a deft little flick on and the Whitnash winger turns his marker and fires across goal, wide of the far post. Whitnash start to control the play. Another break down the right. The cross is cleared but it falls nicely on the edge of the area and is rifled over the bar from eighteen yards. Almost top bin! Twelve minutes gone and another break down the right flank and a solid tackle stops the cross but gives Whitnash a corner. It’s a great corner into the box with plenty of curl and it’s straight into the net in the far corner. One all! Whitnash look for a second. A freekick for handball and it’s inviting into the box but wasted. More foraging down the right gives Whitnash another opportunity but the keeper saves well at the near post and the loose ball is cleared.
Half Time Whitnash 1 Stockton 1
Stockton 1st 10923
The second half starts with a bang. It’s full tempo from the off. Two minutes into the half and Whitnash take the lead. A freekick twenty yards out on the right. It’s whipped in and headed goalwards but headed off the line but the rebound is fired home from close range.
Stockton go in search of the equaliser. A neat move from a throw in results in a good effort just over the bar. Whitnash survive a close shave from a bizarre equaliser when the young keeper launches a kick from the edge of his box. It’s massive! One bounce and it’s going in but the Whitnash keeper turns and catches it facing his own net!
Stockton press but the Whitnash defence hold out. The Whitnash keeper saves a fierce drive from eighteen yards. Straight back up the other end and a freekick into the box is headed back into the middle of the box, but the reverse header is over the bar. Another run down the right and Whitnash shoot but it’s straight into the keepers arms. The clock runs down and Whitnash hold on to take all three points.

We move on to Division 1A action as usual and we start with
Bishops Itchington 11 Bourton & Frankton FC 0
A one sided affair here as Bishops dominated from the start, but it was a slow burner. Bishops had a three goal advantage at half time through Lyle Watkin , Thomas Cooper and Craig Watkin. The second half then became a goal fest. Matt Trinder added a brace in seven minutes. Callum Bell, Andrew Yeates and Adam Miles alled added before the hour mark. Charlie Mills also added a brace in five minutes with Elliott Powell scoring in between!
Dynamo Leamington 1 Leamington Hib’s Res 4
A late Lee Watton goal was little consolation for Dynamo here. Two goals in each half, including a brace from Scott Hammond did the damage. Pedro Fernandes and Aiden Foley getting the others.
Kenilworth Wardens 1 Khalsa 0
A close game here and the odd goal from Luke Parsons just before the hour took the points for Wardens.
We move on to Division 1(B)
Khalsa Reserves 1 Cubbington Albion 6
A brace apiece here for Ryan Butler and Freddie Finn had already set Albion on their way. Luke Warby grabbed a consolation for Khalsa on the hour mark but Alex Witchell and Joshua Aspinall-Smyth then added in the last ten minutes to wrap it all up.
Leamington Hibernian 5 Heathcote Athletic 0
This one was all about Conor Smith. Five goals all scored by the youngster to give Hib’s the points.
Tysoe United 2 Ettington Rovers 1
Almost a South Warwickshire derby here. A Thomas Gardner brace, being a goal either side of the break , were enough to give Tysoe the points. Jordan Pearce pulled one back with six minutes to go, but it was too little too late and Tysoe held on for the win.
We move on to Division 3

Joe Ryan, Luke Shingler , Liam Perkins and Josh Lowe the target men here for the Hornets who take the points all the way home from Kineton.
Massey Ferguson Sports&Soc 1 Southam Sporting 0
A late strike from Jack Morgan with twenty minutes to go, and his composed finish gave Massey’s all three points. The Tractor boys have keeper Harley Hamilton to thank after a brilliant match winning save keeping out a top corner effort. The Southam keeper also made some tremendous save to prevent Massey’s extending the lead.
Sporting Foresters 6 AFC Snitterfield 2
With the scores level at half time it was still anyone’s game. Daniel Eykyn and Alexander Hood with the Foresters goals. Neil Wilson and Talib Bellamy on target for Snitterfield. The second half started slowly but Foresters took control just past the hour mark. A Daniel Eykyn penalty started the romp, shortly followed by Ethan Poole, Jordan Batchelor and Jack Devonland. Foresters take the points.
Stockton Reserves 3 Pig and Fiddle 6
Callum Bird , Sam Church and an own goal kept Stockton in the hunt but The Pig were too strong in the end. Sam Perry, James Bramwell and a Calum Gellender brace had kept Pig ahead and then Travis Lea and Dean Pugh put the final nails in the coffin in the last nine minutes.
