All the results and goals from this weekend.

Latest weekly round up for Sunday 15th October 2023. We have plenty of games this week, and we start with our “Match of the day” which this week comes from Division Three and the fabulous setting of Napton on the Hill.

Division 3
Napton 4 Newbold 4

A bright but cold and frosty start to the day but the pitch looked in fine fettle by the start of the match. We were in for a thriller, some stunning goals and a tremendous fightback.
Napton were as surprised as everyone else, when after only two minutes a cross came in to Chris Watts who controlled the ball on his chest and acrobatically performed an overhead kick and the ball looped gracefully into the top corner. The celebrations had barely finished when Napton went marauding down the right flank, the cross was squared perfectly for Lewis Elkins, who calmly side footed home past the diving keeper. Four minutes in and Napton are two up! Newbold settle down and start to play some lovely football in the middle of the park. Less than ten minutes later and the Napton left flank get involved. This time the ball is cleared from the Newbold box but it falls straight to Youssef Bassou who thunders his shot into the roof of the net. Napton Three up!
Newbold hit straight back and play some neat passing down the left and the cross is whipped in but cleared on the far side for a throw in. The long throw causes havoc in the Napton defence, who are playing with a stand in keeper. It’s not dealt with, allowed to bounce and is fired home at the back post by Daniel Griffin. Napton 3 Newbold 1.
Newbold breakaway and a through ball looks to split the Napton defence, but the ball is intercepted by the Napton centre half and with a telling pass through the midfield finds Harry Norton who deftly lobs the keeper from twenty five yards and it nestles into the top corner to make it Napton 4 Newbold 1.
We go down the other end with yet another Newbold break down the right wing. Newbold win the throw right in the corner. Another long throw into the box, the Napton keeper flaps at this one and again it bounces loose and this time Ben Scandrett is on hand to deftly lob the ball back and into the net for a second Newbold goal. Its end to end stuff and another Napton break sees the cross whipped in from the right but the keeper slices a clearance and it’s out for a corner. The corner is far too deep and goes straight out for a goal kick. Newbold miss another opportunity when a move down the right results in a great cross into the box but the header is over the bar. With five minutes to go before the break Newbold win a free kick outside the box, to the left of the “D”. With the wall set up Daniel Masters lines it up and curls his low shot beautifully around the side of the wall into the far corner.
The second half was a continuation of the first with chances at both ends. Newbold piled on the pressure looking for the equaliser but the Napton defence held firm. Several golden chances went begging and Newbold also hit the post with a lovely effort from the edge of the box. Napton then go down the other end with a great move down the left flank. The ball is squared and the rifled shot thunders back off the Newbold crossbar. Another chance goes begging when the Napton effort is cleared off the line by a defender. With ten minutes left on the clock Newbold push for the elusive goal. A long ball from defence is sweetly controlled by Jordan Bedford and he cuts inside the box but fires wide. Two minutes later and Newbold play the same plan but this time the long ball is met on the volley and it's Bedford whose subtle control slides the ball inside the keepers near post. Napton 4 Newbold 4.
There was still time for more chances and Napton could easily have scored more, one effort into the side netting and another lobbed effort went wide.
The long throw continued to cause Napton problems but Newbold couldn’t convert the chances. That’s how it ended.
A thoroughly entertaining game and probably a fair result given the chances.
Napton 4 Newbold 4.
