Challenge Cup Final

By Mark Rowlatt

Westlea collect their first Silverware of the season.

The Unison sponsored Challenge Cup saw Westlea pick up their first silverware of the season with a narrow victory against Hibs. In a game of few chances, it was Westlea that took the lead on 16 minutes. Martin Hutchcox played the ball through to Luke Cole who delightfully lobbed the keeper. Six minutes into the second half, and the lead was doubled. Hutchcox crossed from the left into the area, with a flick off the head of Joe Wright and the ball fell to Cole for his second of the game. Josh Cole should have made it 3-0, his header well saved. Hibs pulled a goal back with 17 minutes to play, Ricky Uppal notching, to set up a nervy finish. Hibs should have then equalised, 11 minutes from the end, John Blunsom clearing a shot off the line. Two chances were wasted by Westlea to make the game safe, with Luke Church and Jake Montgomery both going close. Westlea held on for victory.
The Trophy was presented by Tony Foster of Unison
