Results Round-Up (Sunday 19th January)

By Rob Dent

Another week of fixtures decimated by the weather

It’s a reduced set of results this week as, yet again, several fixtures fell victim to the recent weather as the overnight freeze added to the already waterlogged pitches.

All games in the Tracey Thomas Challenge Cup and the Cancer Research Cup were cancelled, leaving two cup games to go ahead.

Leamington Hibernians hosted Dynamo Leamington in the Preliminary Round of the George Dutton Cup, and although Dynamo played well, the Division One team – and Connor Carson in particular - had far too much for their Division Three opponents. Carson opened the scoring within ten minutes, and had completed a hat-trick inside the first half-hour, before going to add another two in the second-half. David Jones added a sixth goal for Hibs, while new signing Colin Okirie scored Dynamo’s consolation. Leamington Hibs go through into the first round of the draw with a convincing 6-1 victory, while Dynamo drop into the Andy Campbell Cup.

The only other cup match that went ahead was the first round contest between Warwickshire Police and Hampton Magna in the Cancer Research Supplementary Cup. Again, with a division separating the two teams, Magna had too much for the Police. Tom Wyatt put Magna ahead with a 20th minute penalty, and it stayed like that for much of the game. A late flurry by Magna, with goals from Jason Bradshaw, Lance Chidlow and Ryan Woodward, ensured they progressed through to the next round of the cup with a 4-0 scoreline.

The decimated league fixtures meant that there was a solitary game in each of the four divisions.

The Division One clash was between Heathcote Athletic and Khalsa, and it was first-half goals from Luke Lindsay and Manjinder Chokran, along with a late strike from Sukhraj Nijjar, that gave Khalsa a convincing 3-0 victory, and move them up to second in the table.

Khalsa Reserves were also in action in their Division Two clash with Radford Albion. This was a much closer affair, despite Khalsa taking an early 2-0 lead through goals from Connor Beckinsdale and Jasraj Gill. Albion fought back with a Sion Humphries strike before half-time, before Luke Warby squared the game for Albion with fifteen minutes left on the clock. Not to be outdone, Beckinsdale grabbed his second and Khalsa’s third with five minutes to go, ensuring that a 3-2 scoreline gave Khalsa Reserves all three points, and concluded a very good day for the Khalsa club!

In today’s Division Three game, Jason Thompson grabbed a hat-trick for Warwick Printing in their game against Blackdown. Josh Tiff and Chris Calder also each got a goal for Printing, while Ashley Bradbrook and Adam Hughes grabbed one apiece for Blackdown, meaning Warwick Printing jump three places in the league table after this 5-2 victory.

Finally, in Division Four, Napton travelled to Sands United, where a first-half strike from Napton’s Matthew Best and a Chris Watts brace in the second-half was enough to ensure Napton took all three points. Nick Dhillon grabbed Sands only goal, as they went down 3-1.

Finally, please note that there has been a change of date and a change of venue for January's Council of Clubs Meeting. This was due to take place on Tuesday 28th January, but will now take place at 8pm on Wednesday 29th January. The location has changed to Racing Club Warwick (Townsend Meadow, Hampton Road, Warwick, CV34 6JP).
